Washington, DC

It has been a busy weekend, starting on Saturday morning with a trip from Virginia to Minnesota for our concert in Minneapolis’ Orchestra Hall that evening. The Valentine’s Day concert honoured our good friends Jerry and Cathie Fischer, and raised money for the Park Nicollet Frauenshuh Cancer Center. We were delighted to be able to support such a great cause, and to see so many friends, including my former fellow countertenor, Al Hume, who flew over from London for the concert.Yesterday was the 25th anniversary since my first King’s Singers concert. After the events of Saturday, yesterday was a calmer day, with two flights to get us back to Virginia, followed by a drive to Harrisonburg, and a nice dinner with all the KS.Well, that was the plan…We flew to Chicago with no delay, but the flight on to Charlottesville was slightly delayed in boarding. Once on board we sat for nearly an hour while the ground crew came and went. It turned out that the baggage vehicle had bumped the plane and dented it. After much coming and going, it was decided that the plane was not fit for use, so we were offloaded. Then after a couple of hours they announced we had a new plane and crew. Eventually, four hours later, we boarded that plane, but once again we sat for ages as discussions happened between the flight crew and the ground crew. Once again we were offloaded, and the flight was cancelled. The cause was a frozen lavatory, apparently. After much discussion we were re-routed to Washington DC, and will drive to Harrisonburg this morning.Oh, the joys of travel – even after 25 years it still doesn’t run totally smoothly.
