Last night was a local concert for me, a mere ten minute drive into Winchester. We performed a concert at my old school, Winchester College. We sang in New Hall, the school's concert hall, also used for public exams (and where I sat my A levels). It was also where I saw The King's Singers live for the first time in 1977. In the line-up on that day was Alastair Thompson, who came to yesterday's concert. We shared the platform with various school ensembles. We performed Francis Pott's wonderful Hands across the darkness with the college Quiristers and other singers from Chapel Choir, accompanied by Francis (also an old-boy of the school). We then joined the entire Chapel Choir for Bob Chilcott's A Thanksgiving. In the second half Cantores Episcopi, the school's Close Harmony group, sang some KS folk songs, and then we joined with them for some combined pieces written specially for the evening. As a former member of the group, I was impressed by their singing. This evening we head to Cork, for the first of three concerts in Ireland, the others being in Limerick and Dublin. Then we're back in the UK for a few days. After that we'll be off to the US, which includes our visit to ACDA, and a benefit concert on 14th February in Minneapolis' Orchestra Hall for the Park Nicollet Health Foundation, a concert inspired by our good friends, Jerry and Cathie Fischer. There are still some tickets available, and we've got a great programme in place, a wonderful venue to sing in, and a good cause to support. There'll be some lovely love songs, so it makes a great Valentine's Day evening out!
