Good day to you all......Well after a VERY chilly few days in Finland we are back in the relatively tropical climate of the UK! We had a fabulous time doing 4 concerts with our Great American Songbook programme in some of the most glorious concert halls. The performances with Julian are proving to be great fun and if you haven't seen/heard the new line-up, you should try and pop along to a concert in the near future!I always thoroughly enjoy my time in Finland - we are always looked after very well, stay in comfortable hotels and sing, as previously mentioned, in some great buildings. However, if I'm honest, there's one thing that I miss more than all of these things when we leave that part of the world, and that is the salmon. As any of my colleagues will tell you, I simply adore eating salmon it all its various guises - raw, smoked, grilled, poached - and this fish doesn't get any tastier than when it's from Finland! That reminds me, I must make sure we have some salmon as part of the meal at our wedding.......Anyway, enough talk of food - back to the music! We've got an eagerly anticipated concert coming up of a brand new concert programme of Psalms settings. The music is split into sections - Hymns, Laments and Thanksgiving, and contains some astonishingly beautiful pieces of music, my favourites being the two psalms by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck: Ne veuillez pas, o Sire and Mon Dieu, j'ay en toi Esperance. If you haven't heard any music by this composer before then I urge you listen to the 2005 CD release by The KS called Sacred Bridges. It's one of my favourite discs and in this the group collaborated with traditional Turkish ensemble, Sarband, who play magnificently. Check it out here - https://www.kingssingers.com/products/sacred-bridges/So, I leave you with a couple of photos:Julian holding a microphone.
