This is the last day of sessions here in Highgate after a number of days stretching back as far as October 2016. It's by far the most intensive recording project with which I've been involved as a member of The King's Singers but, equally, probably amongst the most satisfying! We often tell our audiences about the breadth of repertoire that the group performs and records, but it's really hit home with this three-album project that covers a huge expanse of repertoire dating from the early years of the 15th Century to contemporary commissions with the ink still drying - not to mention a number of pop arrangements that are so recent they're still in the charts!I've written many times on these pages that this variety is the true spice of KS life, and it will always remain so. The group's roots were firmly established with the principle that "it's all music, and we want to treat it as such." As we work away with Nigel Short producing, this is a mantra we chant to ourselves - each singer in his own way - as we strive to give the best account of each work we present. What's been the most fun so far? Well, I can't give too much away but I can say that there's some wonderful French music on the disc, alongside some of my very favourite Renaissance motes and madrigals, and a telling contribution from one of my favourite 20th century composers, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett. The idea is that we'll be performing most of the recorded works live, as part of our special anniversary programmes, so do check the website regularly to see whether we'll be near to you!
