Riga Opera House, Latvia

The atmosphere here in Riga is amazing: choirs from all around the world are to be seen 'roaming' the streets, going from venue to venue to participate in or observe the various competitions taking place daily. The KS had a great rehearsal last night in the Opera House, working with Latvian Voices for our joint show this evening, which not only includes some stunning new arrangements by the fine Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds, but also has us moving around the stage in a 'semi-staged' production. I'm excited to be sharing the stage with such an accomplished group - Latvian Voices are terrific ambassadors for their country and they sing in their own, hauntingly beautiful style.

After our rehearsal, I met up with one of my best friends, Mike McCullough from Palmdale, California, who is in town with his choir, the 'Saturday Night Singers'. I was privileged to attend the end of their rehearsal, and listened to them as they sang a piece which is very familiar to me: Bob Chilcott's 'Occuli Omnium', which the KS recorded in Nashville Cathedral on our 'Pater Noster' CD, back in 2012. I was moved and deeply impressed by their singing and engagement, and wish them all the best for both their competitions today. Mike is a gifted conductor, generous communicator, long-time KS fan, and I'm so glad to see him once again as I enter my final 3 weeks in the group.

Here is a photo of my meeting with this fine choir, good luck guys!
