You know that feeling when you’re on a flight and you just need to not think about work and blob out watching something that doesn’t require brainpower? Well that was me today. We were travelling from Seoul, Korea to Guangzhou, China. I was scrolling through the movies and came across one set in NZ. It’s called Pork Pie I hadn’t heard about it which surprised me but I was keen for a bit of ‘home’ and so I duly pressed play. Much to my delight I laughed and laughed as I watched a rather far-fetched story unfold with some classic Kiwi humour – might I direct you to Flight of the Conchords’ Business Time for an example of this – and some well-known personalities from around the country, not to mention some stunning scenery thrown in for good measure. It’s that time of year: BBQ time. I got ours out before this trip to christen the season (does it ever stop being BBQ season?!) and thoroughly enjoyed some pork and apple sausages, lamb rack, haloumi and vegetable kebabs. De-li-cious! The second installment happened last night after our gig in the new LOTTE Concert Hall. What a stunning venue by the way. Gorgeous acoustics. Chamber musicians, eat your heart out! Anyway, back to the BBQ. Some of you may be aware of the Korean BBQ cuisine. It’s a fairly important part of their food culture in my experience and we had a fab time with our hosts relaxing, chatting, grilling and eating!Tonight we arrived in Guangzhou and I’m very much looking forward to the culinary delights that this region has to offer. Asia for me is always exciting food-wise. Each place has its own signature cuisine and I do my best to sample it wherever we go. In a few days we’ll be in Beijing and I look forward to spicy beef noodle soup and/or Peking Duck!Right, bedtime for me before I work up an appetite.Bye for now!
