We've just returned from a super busy weekend, which started with a long drive on Saturday morning from London to Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. Handily, Jules, Tim and I live relatively close to one another in South West London, so Tim drove the three of us straight across the country, over the dramatic Severn Bridge into Wales, and over to Merthyr Tydfil. The venue was an unusual one - namely, the town's Leisure Centre! Yet when we arrived for the rehearsal we were mightily impressed at how the main sports hall had been kitted out with a stage, professional lighting, sound systems and rows and rows of chairs, to house the annual gala concert by the Dowlais Male Voice Choir who had invited us to perform as their guest artist. The gentlemen made a spectacular sound, and the concert interspersed sets from The King's Singers with sets from the Male Voice Choir. It was a particular pleasure singing with the Choir itself for the Welsh National Anthem. IN WELSH!After the concert it was straight back into cars and over to Heathrow Airport, where we stayed for a few hours' rest before hopping on an early morning flight to Switzerland for our performance at the spectacular Valere Basilica, in Sion (see picture below). We were performing the Pater Noster programme, followed by Durufle's Quatre Motets, both of which suited perfectly the incredible acoustics of the church. It was also great for me to have my wonderful girlfriend Ellie at the concert; she came to both the Brescia and Sion concerts this week to support me - what dedication.[caption id="attachment_5259" align="alignnone" width="750"]
A view of Sunday's venue - the Valere Basilica, in Sion, Switzerland.[/caption]We flew back from Geneva this morning and drove straight from the airport to Royal Holloway Chapel, where we spent a few hours rehearsing for our forthcoming CD recordings. We're looking forward to recording some incredible music ready for release for the 50th anniversary season. Now we have a few days of rest and preparation before heading up to the north of England for a concert near Manchester on Friday, then zipping southwards for one in Wiltshire on Saturday. It has been a tough weekend, what with lots of travelling and two concerts within 24 hours, but I can already feel my body and my voice starting to adjust to the new demands of this amazing job, and now I can't wait for concert number 5!
