Los Angeles, CA

Being in California is so good for the soul. We’ve touched down in SoCal, after a concert at the Green Music Center in Sonoma State University last night. I was blown away by the beauty of the Weill Hall there. Windows on every side, made almost entirely of wood. I do hope we get to go back again very soon (not least to enjoy some more truly excellent food, cheese and wine. We are so often spoiled…). I’ve posted a photo of it on my Instagram, so do follow me if you don’t already for updates from around the world. My handle is jonathanmhoward, in case you’re wondering….Today we had a very productive meeting over breakfast in Santa Rosa, discussing more exciting ideas for our 50th anniversary, before flying down to LA earlier this afternoon. I chose to stick around in the city for a bit, exploring the arts district with one of my best friends and eating some excellent healthy Californian food (thank you, thank you, Cafe Gratitude), and now I’m on the train out to San Bernardino for our workshop and concert tomorrow afternoon in the beautiful Redlands Memorial Chapel - with the promise of more, excellent food afterwards. (To be honest, I'm still shocked by how good the train is - I've been unaware of LA's public transport successes until now!) From there, we fly back up to Northern California for the final concert on this trip - in the amazing Cathedral Basilica in San Jose. After that, four of us (David, Jules, Chris G and myself) are returning south to Pasadena to spend some time at this year’s Western ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) conference - please do come and say hello if you’re around too - and I’m then indulging in a full weekend of Californian sun here in LA before flying home next Monday - hopefully beautifully tanned!I hope your weekend is equally as lovely. By this time in 10 days, it will feel like a dream that I was in California at all, I’m sure!
