I am posting my blog slightly early as I will be on a plane for quite a lot of Monday, as we head back to the UK from Salt Lake City via Los Angeles. It has been a great trip, but not without its issues, mostly caused by weather. Aside from that, and the small matter of four days without our luggage, we have had a great time crisscrossing the US, from Florida to Virginia to Minnesota to Virginia (unexpectedly via Washington) to Pennsylvania to Illinois to Indiana to Missouri to Kansas to Oklahoma, and finally to Utah. The last five days have been so enjoyable, starting with two shows for ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) in the Mormon Tabernacle on Wednesday (sharing the concert with the Real Group), followed on Thursday by a day at the ACDA National Convention, including a visit to the Boys Honor Choir, who this year were being directed by my former KS colleague Bob (Chilcott). I also met up with my former countertenor colleague Robin, sadly extremely briefly due to our various commitments, and late on Thursday our most recent KS alumnus, Paul, arrived in town. Once again we were all rushing about, so I wasn't able to spend a decent amount of time with him, but we did see him again briefly yesterday. On Friday and Saturday we headed to BYU at Provo for two packed Great American Songbook shows, where, as ever in this part of the world, we had amazingly enthusiastic audiences. Finally on Sunday we joined the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square for their weekly broadcast of 'Music and the Spoken Word'. The combination of an ACDA National Convention and Salt Lake City has been a fantastic experience for us.As ever we are so thankful to many people for making our trip to the US possible. Stephanie and Sallyann at IMG Artists in New York who work with Claire and Nicola at Music Productions to create the tour, along with Rose, our travel agent. We also so appreciate the work done by Doug Anderson, who travels to all our US shows to sell our merchandise. We are also grateful to all the presenters of the concerts we gave. Thanks also go to Tim Sharp, amongst many others at ACDA, for inviting us to this year's convention. As ever we were delighted to join once again with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, under their remarkable director Mack Wilberg. Lastly thanks go to the MTC's Special Advisor, Ron Gunnell, for his most generous hospitality, and for his friendship. The booby prize for the tour must go to the person who dented our plane with his baggage vehicle - the first link in a chain of events that resulted in our suitcases going absent without leave - it's forgiven, but not forgotten.
