Lockdown Blog 9: Exercising indoors

So, I know in my previous blog I promised to share some more positive stories from around the world. And I will, later. But since I last wrote, I've signed up to do yoga classes six times a week, for the next THREE months! I've actually already attended FIVE classes, for all you cynics out there. My wonderful teacher is called Susanne Kaesbauer. She used to teach in Oxford but moved to Göteburg, Sweden at the beginning of the year. The one-to-one sessions that used to take place at her house still happen but she has now added group classes via Zoom. If you are interested in trying out / revisiting / becoming an expert yogi, like me (!), in Vinyassa yoga, then I urge you check out her website and come and join us. By the way, I think Zoom has overtaken Skype in meeting app of choice, on the list of verbs based around companies like YouTube, Google, FaceTime or WhatsApp, as of the past 2-3 weeks. I digress. Back to exercising.

On Saturday I did something I never thought I would. I did Zumba. Or rather, I Zumba'd (touché, I hear you say). Not only did I Zumba for 30 minutes, whilst wearing a headband, I FaceTime'd (see, told ya) some of our dearest family friends (our mums grew up together). I had a BRILLIANT time! It was genuinely some of the most fun I've had this year, certainly since we've been in lockdown and, what's more, I very much broke into a sweat (you may be wondering where this blog is about to go but I just wanted to give you evidence that it's a serious workout). If you're interested in Zumba-ing (pronounced zum-buh-ring cos zum-buh-ing sounds weird right?!), YouTube it (you're gonna be sick of this in a minute) and let me know what you think.

(Note to self: people are likely to be finding all this bracket usage frustrating and/or confusing. Time to stop.)

Tomorrow morning I'm going to see what all the fuss is about with Joe Wicks. This guy is a self-confessed fitness guru and, as of last week, PE Teacher for the whole of the UK now, which is some effort. He's also a pretty serious man-crush for women, men, grateful/swooning mums and dads, up and down the country. I must admit, I'd never heard of him, up until he started offering free PE classes for kids during lockdown – apparently a godsend – which probably says more about me and my lack of knowledge about physical education...and #ManCrushMondays. Will let you how I get on. I quite fancy being the millionth person on his live, weekday workout. Did I mention he's giving all his ad rev to the NHS? Ok, so I'm beginning to see what all this fuss is about. Feel a hashtag coming along. #notjealous #secretlyjealous #canhereallybeTHATnice? #surelynot #betterseeformyself

To finish off, as promised, here's a short run-down of some of my favourite positive stories from around the globe. I'm not normally a follower of social media love stories but this one's *actually* quite cool. These Spaniards are finding creative ways to share wine with each other. Across North America a number of restaurants and cafes are giving away free food and coffee to workers who identify themselves as being on the 'frontline'. I wonder if that constitutes Starbucks-ing somebody? On second thoughts, much like the coffee (sorry!), I don't think it works that well.

Well, be safe everyone and tell your loved ones how much you love them. As my wife says, be good, be kind, be careful.

See you soon!
