Jackson Hole, WY

What an amazing week. After flying to join everyone in Chicago from New York, I’ve visited three states for the first time: South Dakota, Nebraska and Idaho. In each of these states we’ve sung in fabulous venues: the Larson Memorial Hall at South Dakota State University; the Pieter Kiewit Concert Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center in downtown Omaha; and to 15,000 people last night at the BYU-Idaho Center, where we were joined on stage by sensational singers and dancers and their fantastic concert orchestra. There’s something deeply humbling about sharing the stage with so many people (there were over 400 of us performing last night). Our joint repertoire, all by the incomparable composer and arranger Mack Wilburg, is so emotive anyway – particularly his O Holy Night for The King’s Singers, choir and orchestra, which always makes me cry – but the Christmas celebrations yesterday felt particularly poignant. We’ve developed such a strong and happy relationship with the BYU institutions, and with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and I’m always touched by how much our presence seems to be valued by them. I’m hugely looking forward to being in Salt Lake City in February already, for performances at ACDA and then two at BYU in Provo. From here, we’re heading onto Seattle, for a concert in the equally magical Benaroya Hall tomorrow. Our drive from Rexburg, ID to Jackson Hole Airport has taken us through the Tetons – a mountain range with which I wasn’t previously familiar – and some of the views have been totally breath-taking. Photos will follow - when my computer lets me upload them!
