It’s been a great week to be in England. Temperatures at 36 degrees (that’s touching 100 degrees Fahrenheit for any of you across the pond), glorious sunshine, barbecues an option for apparently every meal, endless opportunities for wearing sunglasses. It’s lovely when our time at home coincides with favourable weather. We had a glorious concert in Cheltenham on Thursday, with the formable Tim Pigott-Smith as our narrator, celebrating 150 years since the publication of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Since then, I’ve returned slowly back to Sussex via Oxford and London. Today I was invited to a picnic to celebrate the engagement of two close friends, which was in Regent’s Park. It’s so easy to forget about the green spaces in our cities when so much of our time is spent on their congested streets, but it was absolutely lovely to enjoy the park yesterday and be thankful that we think it’s important to preserve our public parks and gardens for everyone.
Now I’m back at home, preparing for our UK Summer School, that starts on Monday at Royal Holloway. It’s so exciting to have so many people from all over the world coming together to make our kind of music together. I hope we can get a lot of photos and videos to share with you. For now, I’d better pack!
