Next week we head to China, Taiwan and Japan - this last for our first trip in over 5 years. It'll be special to be there with Julian for the first time, as we know he'll receive a warm welcome as the first KS member with Japanese heritage. It's also special as the first tour where we're using iPads instead of sheet music. This idea has been a few years in the making, and we're delighted that it's come to fruition at last. The technology wasn't quite there before, but now we're able to mark-up our scores, turn pages remotely and carry hundreds of pieces of music around with us. No more last-minute photocopying or having to worry whether our music is in order on the stand! This kind of innovation is important in any organisation, and with David's departure in August we're looking to the future to make sure the group continues to be at the forefront of our sector. We're mindful of the wonderful work that our predecessors have done in putting the group on the map, and have no desire to shake things up too much, but at the same time there are lots of other groups out there doing similar work, so we have to make sure we're still noticed. As I write I'm enjoying the end of a lovely week at home with the girls. It's my birthday on Sunday, and this is the first year in ages when I'll be at home, so the prospect of a warm weekend with those I love most is pleasing indeed. These patches are so important to re-charge between tours, and I know I'll leave on Monday feeling refreshed and excited about the trip ahead.
