Hesston, Kansas

Like the previous Sunday, yesterday was a day off with two flights to our next venue, and once again we encountered travel delays. Our first flight to Dallas left on time, but once again our connection was at first delayed, and subsequently cancelled. However, thanks to Johnny and Chris G's quick thinking, we managed to get ourselves on the only other flight to Wichita, and this time I'm glad to say that all our baggage came with us. Our arrival in Hesston was considerably later than planned, but we are here, and given that the first three flights today from Dallas are cancelled, we are extremely relieved. I'm not sure how I'd have reacted to another enforced separation from my suitcase. We had a lovely stop in St Louis on Saturday, where we performed the Great American Songbook programme at Washington University to an enthusiastic crowd. It has been great to do a run of these shows once again, and we have a few more over the next few week. In addition we'll be singing a more traditional KS programme in Edmond, Oklahoma, and two short performances in Salt Lake City's Mormon Tabernacle on Wednesday at the annual National Convention of ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). We will then be spending Thursday at ACDA, enjoying the huge number of amazing events, and joining Hal Leonard (our publishers) and Naxos for appearances on their stands. I also hope to bump into many friends, including quite a few former colleagues.Last weekend marked my 25th anniversary, and I've had so many messages, for which I'm so grateful. My dear colleagues gave me a wonderful gift (not on the day, as the schedule was rather disrupted by American Airlines, but at lunch on Tuesday), and before the trip I received a lovely card from my esteemed predecessor, Jeremy. This anniversary thing is rather good!
