We're off to China today, so my weekend has involved a certain amount of preparation, along with some time off. On Saturday I went to Oxford, and whilst there I had lunch with Pat, and tea with Chris B. I'm now on the coach to Heathrow, and hope I've remembered to pack everything I need for three weeks away. One thing that has been different this trip has been the amount of sheet music I've packed. For the first time we're using iPads in the concerts, so I have left all the paper scores at home. This felt rather odd. I do have a few scores with me of future repertoire that we plan to rehearse, but most of what I need is uploaded on my iPad. As a result there's a bit of a hole in the luggage where my normally over-stuffed music bag would normally be.I'm looking forward to this trip greatly. After concerts in China, we head to Taiwan and Japan. There's the promise of good food, along with great concert halls and enthusiastic audiences. We'll also be honing our Japanese announcing skills in readiness of the concerts there in the second half of the tour. Of course on this trip we have Julian to coach us, and he will be doing more than his share of announcing. Johnny will also be dusting off his Mandarin for the greetings in China and Taiwan, although the bulk of the rest of the announcing will be in English. For now my main issue is getting to the airport in good time, and preparing for a night on a plane - not one of my favourite things.
