It's cold. Not so cold that I won't be able to go for a run later, but cold enough that I wish I'd worn a jumper to breakfast. We're in Hannover, where we have concerts with the excellent MaedchenChor Hannover this afternoon and tomorrow morning. The MaedchenChor have fast become King's Singers family. This is now the fourth occasion when we've been able to sing together, and every time it just gets better. The girls are a wonderful example of how hard work really pays off. The quality of their sound is excellent, the difficulty of the music they are able to master is really impressive, and they really light up a room with their enthusiasm when they sing. I'm glad it's not long until we're next scheduled to come back here.Otherwise, it's been a really fun first week back of singing. Jules and I jetted in from Japan on Monday before we all met at David's house on Tuesday to rehearse. Wednesday saw us fly to Salzburg, which really is one of my favourite cities in the world, of five of my favourite things: great music; great architecture; great food; great people; great shopping. There's no question that I'm going to have to pop back at another point this year, if only for the goodness of my soul. Finally yesterday was one of our great travel days: from Salzburg to Hannover via Munich by train. I find train journeys so therapeutic, particularly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where the seats are comfortable, the restaurant cars are well-stocked, and the trains are (generally) punctual. I would rather work on a train than in an office any day, and it was magical to see so much snow on the ground as we left Austria.Today is shaping up to be quite a funny day. One of my best friends (we both studied Classics at New College together) and I always joke that we never meet up anywhere conventional. I spend most of my life travelling; he lives in Afghanistan. The last time we saw each other was when our work schedules happened to align in Milan. It just so happens that we're both in Hannover this weekend (something we only discovered when we were messaging yesterday), before flying back to London on Sunday on the same plane! It's always lovely when you don't feel like you have to leave your social life behind at home when you're touring.Anyway, it's getting light outside now, so it's time for me to head back upstairs and start to get ready for the day. Oh, and happy new year! 2016 feels like it's going to be a good one.
