Guangzhou, China

This month (and next month) see a lot of "last times" for Tim and me, in terms of cities - and countries - that we won't return to as members of The King's Singers. This is always a bittersweet experience, and it certainly focuses the mind. How often do you visit a place, knowing that you're highly likely NEVER to go back there? It's an odd feeling in some ways, but I have to admit that there are some cities I feel almost relieved to be leaving for the last time - no names mentioned here ;)Korea, which we visited earlier this week, is a place I shall miss. I love a good Korean barbeque, and indulged to the full after our concert, along with Chris B and Julian. The audience was as friendly as ever, and the sight of hundreds of people waving their phone flashlights in the air as we sang "Magic Castle" as an encore will stay with me forever.A quick hop south-west to China, and the atmosphere changes. I'm not as fond of the food, and you definitely feel as though you're in a more restrictive country. That said, the audiences are always wonderful and tonight's in Guangzhou was no exception. The concert was live-streamed onto Chinese internet, and after the concert we heard that nearly 60,000 people had tuned in, so it was a very successful evening! Tomorrow we head to Shanghai, and then to Beijing, before crossing the water to Japan for the longest stint on this Asian tour.Last week, during a TV interview, a German reporter asked me how I felt to be leaving the KS. "Great!" I replied, which rather took him aback. I think he thought that to be leaving such a special group would be a thing of enormous pain and heartache, but of course there are always positives in life changes. I have many fond memories to take with me, but I never wanted to have just one aspect to my career and it's so exciting to think ahead to working in California and Arizona, taking everything I've learned whilst a member of the KS and spreading that musical message far and wide. The group will be in safe hands, I'm sure, and I'll be able to spend long overdue time with Stephanie and the girls. It's all good!
