Florence (eventually)

Greetings from beautiful Florence! It's a minor miracle that we are all here, and in one piece, as there was very dense fog in London and many flights cancelled and delayed. Chrises G and B had their flight cancelled and had to travel instead to Rome, then get a train over to Florence. Johnny, Tim, Jules and I had an 'airport change' so had to scramble from London City Airport up to Stansted Airport, where we eventually got our flight! These are some of the perils of a job like this with so much travelling - we have to be able to think on our feet and find ways to get anywhere at any time, despite hurdles like the weather. This evening we had a lovely mixed-bag programme at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence - one of the group's old favourite venues, with a famously friendly audience. It's a shame we won't have chance to look around this amazing city, as it's a quick trip, but we're on to Venice tomorrow so we can't complain! The final business for today is to wish Johnny a very happy birthday. He turned 30 today - time to start calling him middle-aged! Sure he'll love that..!
