I’m enjoying a few days of rest before we head to Finland on Wednesday. The next month is pretty busy, with concerts in Germany, Hungary, Spain, Italy, Poland and the UK, not forgetting the four Finnish shows later this week. As Chris G mentioned in his blog on Friday, we performed at Henley’s Phyllis Court Club, to an invited audience of Club members and their guests. The Club is located in a wonderful position next to the River Thames, at the finish line of the famous Henley Regatta’s rowing course. It was a great evening, with a hugely enthusiastic reception from the audience. Afterwards I drove the 40 miles home through wet and windy autumnal weather, with lots of fallen leaves all over the road. Weirdly, though, the temperature was an almost tropical 15°C as I arrived home after midnight, thanks to warm air blowing up from the South. It has remained balmy all weekend, and amid the showers we had some wonderful sunshine. Yesterday afternoon I drove to Oxford to sit in Chris B’s garden, eating wonderful food from the barbecue (these Kiwis know about al fresco dining!). It was part of the celebrations for his recent significant birthday. I won’t disclose any sensitive information, but suffice it to say it is significantly less than my most recent significant birthday. As I write this, the piano is being tuned. Every time this happens I promise myself I will sit and play proper pieces, rather than just using the piano as a tool to help me learn notes. I removed two new KS pieces just before the tuner arrived – more on these in the weeks and months ahead!
