I am delighted to be in Hungary for the first time as a King’s Singer. Yesterday we performed our ‘Love Songs’ programme in Kecskemét.
I had heard lots (all good!) from my colleagues about Hungarian audiences; I was not disappointed! Between many pieces in yesterday’s concert, from the usual chaos of clapping, the audience managed to coordinate their applause into a perfect, seemingly never-ending unison. Never was this more so, than after our performance of Esti Dal written by Kecskemét’s very own Zoltán Kodály. It was a wonderful experience to behold.
After the concert we had the pleasure of hearing a local school choir perform Esti Dal. I took the opportunity to listen extra carefully to their pronunciation so as to revise my Hungarian!
Today we head to Paris, for two concerts in France: Paris and Rouen. I am especially excited as my family will be in France, and this will be the first time they have heard me as a King’s Singer. I am very grateful to my family, as this wonderful life-changing opportunity to sing music all over the world would never have been possible without their constant support.
