Bordeaux, France

Bordeaux is, in my humble opinion, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Full of beautiful buildings, beautiful food, beautiful wine and, of course, beautiful people, it's also home to the stunning Bordeaux Opera House, where I've performed twice with The King's SIngers, though I know the group had been here many times before I joined it too. Flanking the Garonne River, the views of which are best from the many bridges that cross it, the city encapsulates almost all the things I love most about France. I'm delighted we were able to fly out a day before our concert - a rare luxury - to be able to enjoy the city, as well as too prepare for tomorrow's concert: Jules' first abroad.Tomorrow's programme is one of my absolute favourites, even though it's one of our most serious: Gesualdo's Tenebrae Responsories for Maundy Thursday, sung all the through, with all the repeats, without an interval. The performance is very intense for us on stage, particularly because the music and words are so emotionally charged, not to mention that the concert involves very demanding singing (particularly for those whose parts sit slightly higher than mine...). To perform, we're travelling about an hour inland to La Réole. If you Google it, you can see just how ancient and spectacular it is, as well as being very obviously French. Performing in the church there tomorrow will be nothing short of a total joy, I'm sure.Anyway, it's time for bed for me now (even though it's only 10:13pm). My marvellous hearty dinner has sedated me completely. Thankfully I managed to resist pudding, though the same can't be said for all of my colleagues. Below are three shots from this evening. The first is of me posing gratuitously in front of some unidentified buildings that looked important; the second is of this evening's sunset from the table where we ate dinner, looking back over the river towards the city; and the third is of Jules flirting with the camera before devouring his Profiteroles.Night night.
