Bath time!

What a term we've had so far! Kind of crazy to think we're now into October...where has the time gone?! Hard to believe that we've already visited Austria, Germany (several times), Iceland, Belgium, Switzerland and Scotland, with a day trip to Ipswich thrown in for good measure! The audiences have been wonderful and particular highlights would have to be singing in Reykjavik at the magnificent Harpa Concert Hall and then at Skáholt Cathedral. The surrounding landscape is spectacular and I can't wait to go back. Since then, it's been really enjoyable singing a mixture of repeat programmes, one-off concerts, a cappella and orchestral...I think it's what I love about the job: the diversity. So it's off to Bath today. One of my favourite English cities. I first went in 2008 with the ChristChurch Cathedral Choir (NZ) and fell in love with it. The Roman Baths occupied a number of hours in the day, so much so that when I came out all the other lads had long gone so I wandered around by myself and had a ball! There seemed to be buskers on every other corner, from violinists playing Vivaldi's Four Seasons to a steel drum virtuoso and everything in between. The Georgian architecture is magnificent and is about as far away from NZ architecture as possible! Not surprising at all, given how young NZ is, but I think it's what Kiwis love about Europe: the history, the culture, and the fact that there are post offices that out-date us by several hundred years!Today we are sharing the concert in Bath Abbey with The Bath Chorus. The programme features some classics from the First and Second English Renaissance periods – Byrd and Stanford being the notable luminaries – and then some of our favourite Spirituals, including an arrangement of Down by the Riverside, which we've resurrected recently.Hope you're all well, wherever you're reading this. See you soon at a concert!Bye for now!
