I'm currently at home getting things ready for the trip to Canada and the US that starts on Wednesday. It's always tricky to know what to take on a Winter tour in North America, because there is such a variety of climates to deal with. For example our last Canadian concert takes place in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, where it's currently -30C. After that we head to Pensacola, Florida where it should be somewhat warmer. So you see the dilemma.Since my last blog we've had a great week: two days of Christmas recording followed by the auditions last Wednesday. I really enjoyed the process of finding a new singer - it was a novelty to sit back and listen to someone else singing such familiar music. We had a very strong shortlist, but Patrick really impressed us with his singing and musicianship. I am looking forward to the next few months as he starts working with the group. On Thursday I went to hear Tenebrae Consort, the marvellous ensemble directed by my former colleague Nigel Short, who were performing at the London A Cappella Festival. The concert featured music by another former colleague, Bob Chilcott. The concert included some music written by Bob for the KS, so for the second day in a row I sat and listened to other people singing music that is so familiar to me. I rather enjoyed the experience.Over the next three weeks, however, I won't have that luxury as it will be up to me sing my part myself. For now, though, I must make sure I have the right clothing for all possible weather.
