17 / 11 / 2008 - David
I write this on the Eurostar on the way from Lille to London after a memorable weekend with La Lyre Halluinoise, the men's choir from Halluin. We have sung a concert and given a masterclass, but have also received wonderful hospitality and friendship from the members of the choir. Yesterday included a fantastic lunch, at which we ate marvellous charolais beef and huge chocolate desserts (especially Paul). Today's masterclass sessions were interupted by yet another meal, this time with the entire choir, after which we took turns to sing to each other. We would like to thank Michel, the choir's director, Xavier, the choir's president, the committee, and all the singers for making us so welcome. La Lyre is an exceptional choir musically, but what really shines through in their singing is the camaraderie and the enjoyment. They have a very good attitude to their music, starting early in the year, for when they meet for their first rehearsal in January, they do not sing, but just enjoy a meal and a few drinks together. Through the year that follows they work hard, singing around 17 concerts, but the sense of fun continues. It is an admirable philosophy.
